When it comes to youth, promoting health career exploration for rural
and minority students is a foundational activity for Suwannee River AHEC. The purpose of health career exploration is to open young people's eyes to the
many opportunities that are available to them through a career in the
health sciences. Please read below for more information on our variety of programs!
This one-day event is designed to introduce high school students
to health careers. Students rotate through several 30-minute
interactive presentations on various careers in health care provided
by community college representatives or health care providers.
This 4-week residential summer camp is open to rising high school
juniors and seniors. The Institute provides learning opportunities for
students who have shown an interest in a health care career. Camp
participants are selected through a competitive application process
based on demonstrated interest, grade point average, essay questions
and letters of recommendation. The purpose of the Institute is to
recruit underrepresented minority and rural students to health careers
and is co-sponsored by the University of Florida.
Applications for summer 2010 are available here. Due by Friday April 2, 2010. This year's camp dates are June 20 – July 17. |
