National Health Education Week: Healthy Connections

This week is the 23rd annual National Health Education Week. The theme for 2017 is Scaling New Heights: Health Educators Know What’s Up with today’s focus being Healthy Connections, our specialty! Here at Suwannee River Area Health Education Center, one of our goals is to create healthy connections in the twelve counties that we serve. We have health educators to thank for fostering these connections.

Tobacco Cessation: Connecting the Community to Better Health

Our tobacco treatment specialists work to provide direct health education to tobacco users in our service area. During local group cessation programs our facilitators give resources and support to people who want to quit using tobacco. Our programs provide free NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) and workbooks to help participants along their quit journey. Programs include Tools to Quit, a one-time, two-hour program and Quit Smoking Now, a six-week program.

Navigators: Connecting the Community to Health Insurance

During Open Enrollment (November 1st-December 15th, 2017), our Health Insurance Marketplace Navigators will be working diligently to help as many people as possible get coverage. Our navigators provide free health insurance guidance in the following 15 counties:

Alachua, Bradford, Citrus, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Lafayette, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Sumter, Suwannee, and Union.

Professional Education: Connecting Healthcare Providers to Education

Our professional education team offers a full range of conference management and professional education solutions. Connecting healthcare providers to up-to-date, relevant information is a top priority for our professional education team. Most of our trainings are available to the public as well, with a range of topics including palliative and end of life care, immunizations, HIV/AIDS, and many more. See what we have coming up, and stay up-to-date with our live program schedule here.

We also connect people with education through online trainings, in addition to our live programs. We have many free and low-cost trainings on our online learning center. Check out our selection of online courses here.

Workplace Wellbeing: Connecting Employees to Wellness

Does your workplace have a wellness program in place? Has it been evaluated and revamped in the past year? If not, Suwannee River AHEC can help by doing a comprehensive needs assessment and creating a plan that is built specifically for your workplace.

Additionally, if you are a provider of wellness services, we can connect you with clients through our database of service providers. We use this database to create recommendations for our workplaces, and will typically connect employers with 1-3 best practice vendors for each of their top program interest areas.

At SRAHEC we are proud to have a team with many health educators who are dedicated to creating and maintaining healthy connections in our community.
