TOBACCO TREATMENT  SPECIALIST TRAININGS

Training Information

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program at the Florida State University College of Medicine has developed the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training: 3-Day Foundation Course to provide an in-depth understanding of tobacco dependence, as well as the essential, science-based treatment tools necessary to help tobacco users achieve freedom from their addiction.

The training format allows for an interactive and comprehensive educational experience. Participants can expect to leave the training feeling competent to effectively treat patients for tobacco dependence. The curriculum provides knowledge of evidence-based treatment methods and provides participants with necessary skills and tools needed to assess and treat smokers.

Our TTS training meets all the requirements set forth in the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence, as well as the national standards for competencies for Tobacco Treatment Specialties. Trainers for the 3-Day Foundation Course are FSU College of Medicine faculty and staff and FAMU College of Pharmacy staff.

Additionally, our training offers an optional 4-hour Quit Smoking NOW (QSN) Facilitator training on the fourth day. The QSN Facilitator session prepares tobacco treatment specialists (TTS) to offer the six-session QSN classes in their communities.

  • Counseling Skills – 5 hours
